Conscious Capitalism
|
|
Conscious capitalism results
in proven tangible
economic
well-being.
All life is governed by Universal Law and any
business, large or small, that ignores this fact is
in grave danger of being destroyed by the powerful
movement some refer to as ‘conscious capitalism’.
In other words, business is an integral feature of
society, but in order for it to survive in this
evolving world, it must BE the values it purports to
support, not just speak them. These values include
integrity, ethics, caring for employees, and being
stewards of planetary well-being.
Well-known futurist, Patricia Aburdene, in her book,
Megatrends 2010, proclaims and gives examples of how
such spiritual values as integrity, trust,
compassion, doing the right thing, forgiveness,
suspension of judgment, harmony with the
environment, and even the benefits of quiet
self-reflection, all contribute to highly
functioning, highly successful organizations. She
has researched and learned that there are many
companies who, today, are seeing tangible economic
results when they practice ‘conscious capitalism.’
All spiritual traditions have as their essence the
same basic teaching, ‘Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you.’ How simple is this entreaty.
And yet, how easily it has been ignored in the
pursuit of economic power over others. But, it can
no longer be ignored. Too much is happening in this
world that points to a critical event that will see
this world change before your very eyes. It is not
acceptable to say that it is ‘business as usual.’ It
is often heard stated by unconscious business
people, ‘This is business and the rules are
different than in other parts of life.’ This is such
a self-serving untruth that I am pained to even
repeat it.
Businesses have a mammoth responsibility to maintain
the highest standards. They are the economic pillars
of the planet and as such they hold the power to
either destroy or protect it and its inhabitants.
And they can only benefit by remembering to ‘Do unto
others as they would have others do unto them.’
There is a story about a multi-national
organization—IBM—that sent its managers on a nature
walk. One of the participants sat by a wooded stream
and when he closed his eyes to meditate on the scene
he saw a rusted and broken computer polluting the
crystal clarity of this virgin stream. It so
affected him emotionally and spiritually that he
determined he and his team would produce a
completely recyclable computer. This company now
manufactures a computer that is 99% recyclable! And
they are still profitable.
I have heard of an ongoing study by Fortune Magazine
which looks at the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For.’
The magazine assesses such issues as fairness,
meaning of work, sense of family, and community. The
100 companies that demonstrate high integrity have
an astonishing average growth rate of more than 50%
higher than their industry standard! This is because
of The Law of Attraction—like attracts like.
Consumers today are very sophisticated and seek out
values-based companies for their purchases.
In closing, I urge you to be mindful that making a
profit and doing business from a values base are not
mutually exclusive.
Create an action-filled life!Deanna
